Carnivalesque & Your Halloween Playlist: Week 5, The Finale

Halloween is upon us. Time to milk those last few days out of your decorations (unless you’re like Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion Ride and have overlapping decorations that will take you through the New Year. If so, well done on the planning. And also: Congratulations on recognizing the true meaning of the holidays.

So get your Carnivalesque costumes ready, have fun terrorizing yourself with scary movies or theme park attractions, seances and conjurings, and think of your forebearers who made all this biologically necessary. Unless you are my mom, who is perfectly evolved passed the need to recreate Neanderthal adrenaline rushes.

Halloween—Siouxsie and the Banshees

Creature from the Black Leather Lagoon—The Cramps

October 30

This is Halloween—Marilyn Manson. Revisiting The Nightmare Before Christmas with this most excellent version.

The Ghost of Smokey Joe—Cab Calloway

Malinchista—Dia de los Muertos. For the thrasher fans who have to put up with Bobby Pickett. This is one of those not-safe-for-my-mom songs that she would get lured into at first because of the opening Spanish guitar.

October 31

Dead Man’s Party—Oingo Boingo. This is THE Halloween song. And some very creative and talented person made an excellent video mashup homage to Tim Burton and Danny Elfman.

Halloween—Dead Kennedys

Werewolf—The Frantics

November 1

For all my calaveritas. Some may call it All Saints’ Day, but others know who’s really showing up.

Cumbia de los Muertos—Ozomatli

La Muerte Chiquita—Café Tacvba

Día de los Muertos—El Mató a un Policía Motorizado. Getting Argentina in on the action.
